We ran into some server issues that took the site offline for over an hour. We were alerted and fixed the root issue (disk failure). We don’t expect any further issues nor was there any data loss. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience.

You’ve probably noticed the service slowing down significantly in the last few days. That’s PostgreSQL’s way of saying it needs to be reloaded (don’t get me started on it).

We’re going to be taking down the site for roughly an hour this evening (from 6-8pm PST). As always be sure to keep your timers open and everything will be saved when the site comes back online. Thanks!

New rounding options for reports.

By popular request we’ve improved your rounding options for reports.

You now can specify if you want to round only the totals (how things were rounded previously) or whether each individual time entry should be rounded up. Since this could lead to lots of short entries being rounded up and create over-inflated totals you also have the option to exclude entries that aren’t very long.

API Change

One of the things we’ve noticed during the server move is people making API calls to retrieve *very* large sets of Time Entries. This is causing usage spikes that are adversly affecting the overall response time. In response we’ve updated the API to only return 5000 entries at a time. If you need more you can pass the ‘offset’ parameter to “paginate” over the results.

For example if your first request returned 5000 entries you would want to do a 2nd request with offset=5000 to get the next “page” of results. You’d continue to do this until we returned less than 5000 entries.

We’re going to take advantage of the historically low traffic on this the Sunday before Labor Day (in the US) to move our hosting infrastructure to a new provider. It shouldn’t take 7 hours but just want to set pretty conservative expectations. Thanks for your understanding.

Just wanted to make a note that our move to our new server cluster was successful and has improved performance dramatically. Server Downtime this Sunday

Happy New Year! To celebrate we’re moving SlimTimer over to EngineYard which should help with a lot of the performance issues that have been cropping up lately. We’ll try to make the switch as painless as possible but expect it to be offline for the better part of the day. Sorry for any inconvenience.

New server online but with performance issues

Moving the server and it should be down for the next 2 hours. Keep your timers open and they’ll save their time when the new server comes online. We’ll keep you updated here.

Update: Server is up and as soon as the DNS updates you’ll be forwarded along. If you don’t want to wait the new server IP is 209.20.76.230 which you can plug into your HOSTS file.

Update2 [18:00 GMT]:The new server is pretty sluggish right now. We’re actively working on the problem. You may experience intermittent connection issues.
